SPLINTER TONGUE

Splinter Tongue is a professional clarinet ensemble based in the Piedmont NC Triad and is comprised of clarinetists. The quartet performed a wide variety of Western art music in eclectic venues such as coffee shops, modern art galleries, breweries, as well as university concert halls. With commissioning being an essential aspect of their mission, Splinter Tongue has brought to life the works of contemporaries in the Eastern US  and cultivated a musical library consisting largely of young composers and underrepresented identities in the American classical repertoire such as female, African-American, and LGBTQ+ composers.

For Splinter Tongue, I had the distinct pleasure of diving deep into the world of event promotion, ensuring their events resonated with the right audience and left an indelible mark. Furthermore, I took charge of merchandising promotions, crafting campaigns that not only elevated the brand's presence but also connected with fans on a personal level. My work also extended to fostering collaborations with composers, bridging creative minds to produce harmonious and captivating results. This multifaceted engagement with Splinter Tongue showcases my versatility and dedication to delivering excellence across different promotional realms.

BRIEF OVERVIEW OF CAMPAIGNS FOR SPLINTER TONGUE

1. Content Marketing:

SPLINTER TONGUE - “CALL FOR PROPOSALS” CAMPAIGN

Splinter Tongue Social Media Post for Call for Proposals

One of my proudest achievements as Branding & Social Media Manager for Splinter Tongue was organizing and promoting the "Call for Proposals" campaign. This initiative invited aspiring composers to submit original clarinet ensemble pieces for potential performance by Splinter Tongue.

To drive awareness, I designed graphics using a consistent visual theme - an abstract background of sheet music and clarinets in Splinter Tongue's brand colors. The campaign name and details were overlaid in a sleek contemporary font. I posted these graphics across Splinter Tongue's social media channels.

The campaign was a massive success with over 50 proposals submitted! The campaign graphics show both my creative skills in developing an eye-catching visual theme and my strategic abilities to promote initiatives across platforms. Most importantly, the results demonstrate how my work helped surface exciting new clarinet ensemble repertoire!

To announce the winners on social media, I created Instagram carousels with the first slide featuring the campaign graphics and the second highlighting a short bio for each composer. The first winner was a young composer from Georgia. The second was a composer from Colombia. I worked closely with both to refine and finalize their pieces over video calls. Despite the challenges of 2020, we were determined to bring these inspiring new works to life. I handled all the logistics to livestream Splinter Tongue performing the pieces on Twitch, which was viewed by thousands across the globe.

The campaign was rewarding not only for discovering two incredible new clarinet ensemble pieces, but also for the joy of connecting artists everywhere during a difficult time. My work driving awareness and overseeing the selection process resulted in beautiful music that comforted and inspired audiences. I'm proud to have made a difference through my marketing skills.

PRESS KITS

One part of my portfolio displays an example press kit I would create for Splinter Tongue’s local performances. These comprehensive kits equipped venue hosts with materials to help promote our events. The kits would include Splinter Tongue’s long and short bios to provide background on the ensemble and our achievements. I also incorporated visually-striking promotional graphics, like the example concert poster design displayed here.

The press kits always featured Splinter Tongue’s official logo and any additional assets requested by specific venues, such as photos or program notes. My ability to anticipate needs and tailor press kits for each host helped make every performance a smooth, collaborative process. I took great pride in providing professional, comprehensive press kits that represented Splinter Tongue’s excellence while adapting to each unique situation.

This example illustrates my expertise in compiling customized press kits encompassing diverse elements - from written content to graphical assets. My focus on presentation and working closely with partners helped drive success for each event. I look forward to discussing how I can apply these skills to support promotional needs in a new role.
